Octreotide A highly potent somatostatin analogue, octreotide, which contains only eight amino acids, has been designed to be highly resistant to proteolytic digestion and now has an established use in the suppression of hormone secretion in acromegaly, carcinoid tumours, and hypersecretory tumours of the gastrointestinal tract (such as VIPomas and glucagonomas).
